COLOMBIA – Colombian imports of European machinery for secondary wood processing (wood-based panels) reached USD 1.87 million in the first half of 2023 (6M-2023). This represented a sharp drop of 30.3% compared to the previous year (6M-2022: USD 2.69 million).

The main supplier of European wood processing technology to the Colombian market in 6M-2023 was Germany’s Homag Group with USD 868.8 thousand, which represented a 25.1% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year (6M-2022: USD 1,15 million). In 6M-2023, the Homag Group’s share of total imports was 46.2% percent, compared to 43.0% percent in 6M-2022 .

Italy’s SCM Group, was the second largest supplier of European composite wood processing machinery to the Colombian market in 6M-2023 with USD 637 thousand, which represented an improvement of 7.7%, compared to the same period in 2022. In 6M-2023, the SCM Group’s share of total imports was 33.9%, compared to 21.9% in 6M-2022 .

Italian vertical saw manufacturer Putsch Meniconi was the third largest European supplier of wood processing machinery to the Colombian market with USD 140.6 thousand in 6M-2023. An improvement of 9.0% compared to 6M-2022 (USD 129 thousand).

The main importers of European wood processing machinery to the Colombian market in 6M-2023 were Madecentro (USD 742.3 thousand), Sierras y Equipos (USD 679.1 thousand) and Industria de Muebles del Valle (USD 313.7 thousand).
