USA – Google has unveiled its first office building constructed using mass timber, located at 1265 Borregas in Sunnyvale, California.
The five-story building, designed with sustainability in mind, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 96% compared to a traditional steel-and-concrete office.
The structure uses laminated Douglas fir wood and is part of Google’s broader goal to create eco-friendly, productive workspaces.
The 182,500 square-foot building features natural elements like large windows, exposed timber, and an underfloor air system, creating a healthier environment for employees.
It also includes solar panels and is all-electric, LEED Platinum certified. Google hopes this mass timber approach will inspire others in the construction industry to adopt more sustainable practices.
The office is designed for collaboration, with dedicated spaces for hybrid and focused work. The building also integrates biophilic design to connect employees with nature, boosting productivity and well-being.
Google aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 and is committed to sustainable development in its operations.
