BELGIUM –   In a decisive move to protect European jobs and ensure fair competition in the wood flooring sector, the European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties ranging from 21.3% to 36.1% on imports of multilayered wood flooring originating from China.

The measure aims to safeguard a European market valued at EUR 1.3 billion and employing more than 10,000 people across the EU.

The decision follows an investigation revealing that Chinese imports were being sold at prices significantly below fair market value, a practice known as “dumping,” which caused substantial harm to the EU industry.

By enforcing these duties, European manufacturers will be able to compete on a more level playing field with their Chinese counterparts.

Multilayered wood flooring, also referred to as engineered or assembled parquet flooring, is made from several layers of wood veneer bonded together. It is widely used in homes, offices, hotels, shops, and cultural spaces such as museums, valued for both its aesthetic appeal and durability.

According to the European Commission, key markets such as Germany, Italy, and France are expected to benefit most from these measures, which are intended to restore competitive balance and prevent further job losses.

The move is also expected to encourage investment and innovation within the sector, enabling European producers to supply high-quality, competitively priced flooring to both local and international markets.
