ECUADOR – With exports for USD 57.88 million in the first seven months of 2020 (7M-2020), Ecuadorian exports of Particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) fell 19.6 percent compared to the same period of 2019 (7M-2019: USD 72.01 millions).
It is worth remembering that in 2019 Ecuadorian PB/MDP exports reached a record figure of USD 128.10 million.
Novopan del Ecuador, accounted for 99.1 percent of the total exported by the country. As of July 2020, Novopan’s PB/MDP exports totaled USD 57.37 million, which represents a sharp drop of 19.6 percent compared to the first seven months of 2019 (7M-2019: USD 71.38 million).
The main external market for the Ecuadorian PB/MDP in 7M-2020 was again Colombia, followed by Peru.
In 7M-2020, Ecuadorian shipped USD 32.64 million to Colombia, a drop of 16.6 percent compared to shipments made in the same period of 2019 (7M-2019: USD 39.14 million).
Peru was the second external market for Ecuadorian PB / MDP. Exports to Peru were even more affected by the Covid-19 pandemic than shipments to Colombia, falling 37.2 percent from USD 28.94 million in 7M-2019 to USD 18.17 million in the first seven months of 2020.
The US, with a strong increase in its purchases of Ecuadorian PB / MDP, was the third external market, reaching USD 1.33 million (7M-2019: USD 119 thousand).
