ECUADOR – With exports of USD 29.6 million in the first three months of 2020 (1Q-2020), Ecuador bettered Chile (1Q-2020: USD 22.07 million) and Brazil (1Q-2020: USD 21.04 million) and confirmed its position as the main Particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) exporting country in Latin America.

For the three main exporting countries mentioned above, Colombia and Peru stand out as the preferred external markets.

Consolidated exports of the three main regional PB / MDP exporting countries to Colombia in 1Q-2020 reached USD 24.7 million, 2.0 percent above 1Q-2019 (USD 24.3 million). While the consolidated exports of the top three exporting countries to Peru grew 2.6 percent, from USD 19.5 million in 1Q-2019 to USD 20.0 million in 1Q-2020.

In 1Q-2020 Colombia was the main destination country for Ecuadorian PB / MDP exports with USD 16.9 million followed by Peru with USD 10.5 million. Mexico was the main destination for Chilean PB / MDP exports in 1Q-2019 with USD 7.6 million followed by Peru with USD 6.4 million and Colombia with USD 4.4 million. While in 1Q-2020 China was the main destination for Brazilian PB / MDP exports with USD 4.4 million followed by the US (USD 3.8 million), Peru (USD 3.5 million) and Colombia (USD 3.1 million).
