COLOMBIA – Keeping the global temperature rise below 2ºC is among the biggest challenges today. Duratex recognizes the role of companies in this context and, therefore, continuously acts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in their production processes.
Climate change is also one of the themes of the company’s Sustainability Strategy, which brings four clear and objective goals related to the subject to be reached throughout the company by the year 2025.
Because of its actions related to the theme, Duratex has maintained for the last eight consecutive years the gold seal of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, which attests to a high level of transparency in the communication of its information related to Climate Change.
In Colombia, where it also has operations, the company maintains the program “Carvida Duratex – Carbon Bonus for Life”, which between 2010 and 2017 guaranteed the capture of 956 thousand tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through forests maintained by the company in the country.
The value is equal to the same amount of CO2 emitted by all the vehicles that circulate in the Metropolitan Area of Valle Aburra Valley, the second most populous of Colombia, during 14 days of the year.
The results of Carvida Duratex culminated in the conquest of the Icontec Forest Compensation Certificate in 2018 and guaranteed Duratex’s initiative the title of Colombia’s largest GHG compensation program.
