Data points to slowdown in the Brazilian board industry

BRAZIL – Brazilian panel industry in February recorded a sharp drop in indicators of production, domestic sales and apparent consumption.

IBA According to data published by IBA (Industria Brasileira de Arvores) in February 2015 board production in Brazil fell by 8.2% reaching 590,000 m3, which compares to 643,000 m3 produced in the same month of 2014. Also, February 2015 became the month with the lowest production since February 2013 (560,000 m3) and it is the fourth consecutive month in which production is less than 700 thousand cubic meters.

During February 2015 sharp drops were also registered in domestic sales indicators and apparent consumption. In the period domestic sales were down 14.7% compared to the same month last year. Accumulated domestic sales in the first two months of the year were 8.7% lower than the same period 2013. Furthermore apparent consumption fell by 10.3% in February against February 2014 and 8.5% in the first bimester against 2013 figures.
