CHILE – Chile’s radiata pine plywood exports fell 6.3% to USD 239 million (FOB) in the first nine months of 2017 (9M-2017).
In terms of volume, exports of radiata pine plywood fell 8.3% to 325,049 tons in 9M-2017 compared to 9M-2016.
In 9M-2017 Chile’s exports to the US, its main export market, were up 3.4%, reaching 131,957 tons; in terms of value, this radiata pine plywood was worth 1.8% less than in the prior-year period as it sat at USD 100.4 million. The amount exported to Mexico and its value tumbled more than 40% to 44,516 tons valued at USD 29.6 million. With a 17.8% growth in exports to 24,057 tons and a 30.0% hike in value to USD16.5 million, the Netherlands overtook the UK as the third foreign market for Chile’s plywood. Shipments to the UK fell 32.4% to 15,374 tons with a 29.1% reduction in value to USD 12.2m. Australia also surpassed the UK in volume terms with plywood deliveries of 15,648 tons. In the export value ranking, Australia held on to fifth place with USD 11.7million (+8.3%).
