BRAZIL – According to IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry) reports, in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q-2021) the consumption of wood boards (Particleboard / MDP, MDF and Hardboard) in Brazil reached 2.04 million m3, an increase of 26.2 percent compared to the 1.61 million m3 reached in 1Q-2020.
In 1Q-2021, consolidated sales in the Brazilian domestic market reached 2.02 million m3, an improvement of 25.3 percent compared to the same period in 2020 (1Q-2020: 1.61 million m3).
The export values of Brazilian wood panels in 1Q-2021 reached USD 78.4 million, representing a growth of 14.3 percent compared to the USD 68.6 million exported in 1Q-2020.
Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wood panels in 1Q-2021, with USD 47.3 million (1Q-2020: USD 38.1 million), which represented an increase of 24.1 percent. The North American market continued in importance and was the one with the highest growth with USD 23.7 million and a strong increase of 32.4 percent compared to 1Q-2020 (USD 17.9 million). China, although it fell 31.1 percent, was the third market for Brazilian wood panel exports, dropping from USD 4.5 million in 1Q-2020 to USD 3.1 million in 1Q-2021.
In 1Q-2021, the volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers showed an improvement of 7.3 percent to 336 thousand m3 compared to 313 thousand m3 exported in 1Q-2020.
