Brazilian Wooden Panel Consumption Grows 22.3% in 9M-2021

BRAZIL – As reported by IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry), in the first nine months of 2021 (9M-2021) the consumption of wood-based panels (Chipboard/MDP, MDF and Hardboard) in Brazil reached 6.18 million m3, an increase of 23.0 percent compared to the 5.02 million m3 reached in 9M-2020.

961BRASIL In 9M-2021, consolidated sales in Brazil’s domestic market reached 6.14 million m3, a 22.3 percent improvement compared to the same period in 2020 (9M-2020: 5.02 million m3).

Brazilian wood-based panel export values in 9M-2021 reached USD 251.1 million, representing a 28.3 percent growth compared to USD 195.7 million exported in 9M-2020.

Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wood-based panels in 9M-2021, with USD 141.8 million (9M-2020: USD 94.6 million), representing a strong rise of 49.9 percent. The North American market followed in importance with USD 80.2 million and an increase of 24.9 percent compared to 9M-2020 (USD 64.2 million). China, although down 29.2 percent, was the third largest market for Brazilian wood panel exports, going from USD 17.1 million in 9M-2020 to USD 12.1 million in 9M-2021.

In 9M-2021 the volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers presented an increase of 6.7 percent with 972 thousand m3 compared to 911 thousand m3 exported in 9M-2020.
