Brazilian Wood Panel Consumption falls 16.7% in 6M-2022

BRAZIL – As reported by IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry), in the first six months of 2022 (6M-2022) the consumption of wood-based panels (Chipboard/MDP, MDF and Hardboard) in Brazil reached 3.40 million m3, a sharp drop of 16.7 percent compared to the 4.09 million m3 reached in 6M-2021.

998BRASIL In 6M-2022, consolidated sales in Brazil’s domestic market reached 3.40 million m3, a 16.2 percent drop compared to the same period in 2021 (4.06 million m3).

Brazilian wood-based panel export values in 6M-2022 reached USD 278.3 million, representing a remarkable growth of 74.3 percent compared to USD 159.7 million exported in 6M-2021.

Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wood-based panels in 6M-2022, with USD 126.3 million (6M-2021: USD 92.3 million), which represented an increase of 36.8 percent. The North American market followed in importance with USD 107.1 million and a very strong increase of 117.2 percent compared to 6M-2021 (USD 49.3 million).

In 6M-2022 the volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers presented an increase of 30.8 percent with 862 thousand m3 compared to 659 thousand m3 exported in 6M-2021.
