BRAZIL – As reported by IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry), in 2022 the consumption of wood-based panels (Chipboard/MDP, MDF and Hardboard) in Brazil reached 6.99 million m3, a significant drop of 15.2 percent compared to the 8.25 million m3 reached in 2021.
In 2022, consolidated sales in Brazil’s domestic market reached 6.99 million m3, a 14.8 percent drop compared to 2021 (8.25 million m3).
Brazilian wood-based panel export values in 2022 reached USD 477.9 million, which represented a notorious growth of 37.6 percent compared to the USD 347.3 million exported in 2021 by Brazilian wood-based panel manufacturers.
North America passed Latin America and was the main regional export market for Brazilian wood-based panels in 2022, with USD 204.6 million (2021: USD 109.6 million), which represented a sharp increase of 86.7 percent. The Latin American market was the second largest in importance with USD 201.4 million and a slight increase of 1.7 percent compared to 2021 (USD 198 million). They were followed by China (USD 38.3 million) and Europe (USD 15.2 million), which were the foreign markets with the highest growth in 2022.
The volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers increased by 14.8 percent to 1.45 million m3 compared to 1.27 million m3 exported in 2021.
