Brazilian Wood Panel Consumption Down 15.1% in 9M-2022

BRAZIL – As reported by IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry), in the first nine months of 2022 (9M-2022) the consumption of wood-based panels (Chipboard/MDP, MDF and Hardboard) in Brazil reached 5.25 million m3, a significant drop of 15.1 percent compared to the 6.18 million m3 reached in 9M-2021.

1010BRASILIBA In 9M-2022, consolidated sales in Brazil’s domestic market reached 5.24 million m3, a 14.6 percent drop compared to the same period in 2021 (6.14 million m3).

Brazilian wood-based panel export values in 9M-2022 reached USD 408.5 million, representing a strong g of 62.7 percent compared to USD 251.1 million exported in 9M-2021 by Brazilian wood-based panel manufacturers.

Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wood-based panels in 9M-2022, with USD 173.1 million (9M-2021: USD 141.8 million), which represented an increase of 22.1 percent. The North American market followed in importance with USD 172.6 million and a remarkable 115.2 percent increase compared to 9M-2021 (USD 80.1 million).

In 9M-2022 the volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers presented an increase of 28.5 percent with 1.24 million m3 compared to 972 thousand m3 exported in 9M-2021.
