Brazilian panel consumption down 9.7% in July

BRAZIL – According to IBA’s (Brazilian Tree Industry Association) latest monthly report, Brazilian wooden panel consumption reached 550 thousand cubic meters in July of this year. A decrease of 9.7% compared to 609 thousand cubic meters in the same month 2014.

Tableros 201509 Consolidated wooden panel consumption in Brazil in the January – July 2015 period reached 3.86 million cubic meters, that represented a 4.1% drop compared to the same period 2014 (4.03 million cubic meters).

On the other hand, Brazilian exports of wooden panels reached 54 thousand cubic meters in July 2015, compared to 51 thousand cubic meters in same month 2014 (+5.9%). Consolidated wooden panel exports in the first seven months of this year reached 343 thousand cubic meters, a 40% growth compared to 245 thousand cubic meters in the January-July period of 2014.

For the seven month period of January – July 2015, Brazilian wood panel imports reached 8 thousand cubic meters compared to 48 million cubic meters in the same period 2014. This strong drop of 83.3% in wooden panel imports contributed to the important drop in domestic consumption during the first seven months of the year.
