BRAZIL – Brazilian wood furniture exports witnessed a significant decline of 18.5% in the first half of 2023 (6M-2023), reaching a value of USD 272.33 million compared to USD 334.18 million in 6M-2022.
The United States, a key export destination, experienced a sharp decrease of 31.6% from USD 135.19 million in 6M-2022 to USD 92.52 million in 6M-2023.The United Kingdom, the second-largest foreign market, saw exports drop by 21.9% to USD 23.03 million in 6M-2023 from USD 29.50 million in 6M-2022.
Chile, despite a notable decline of 36.2%, remained the third-largest foreign market with exports valued at USD 19.07 million in 6M-2023. Uruguay and Peru emerged as prominent external markets, recording USD 19.03 million and USD 14.54 million in 6M-2023, respectively. Exports to Peru fell by 13.3%, while exports to Uruguay grew by 28.9%.
In terms of exporting states, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande Do Sul maintained their positions as the top contributors in 6M-2023. Santa Catarina saw a drop of 28.1% from USD 157.67 million in 6M-2022 to USD 113.41 million. Rio Grande Do Sul experienced a milder decline of 10.1%, with exports amounting to USD 83.39 million compared to USD 92.79 million in 6M-2022.
