BRAZIL – In August 2018 the domestic consumption of wood panels in Brazil reached 645 thousand m3, an increase of 13.8% compared to August 2017 (567 thousand m3).
In the first eight months of the year, sales in the Brazilian domestic market reached 4.4 million m3, an improvement of 4.8% compared to the same period of 2017 (4.2 million m3). These figures, published by IBA (Industria Brasileira de Árvores), reflect an increase in the apparent consumption of wood panels in Brazil in the month of August, which contributed to an improvement in the internal consumption of wood panels in the first eight months of 2018.

In the January to August period, the Brazilian manufacturers of wood panels presented an improvement of 3.7% in the export volumes reaching 871 thousand m3 (2017: 840 thousand m3). In values, in the first eight months exports of wood panels grew 7.3%, reaching USD 205 million (2017: USD 191 million).
Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wooden panels in the January – August 2018 period with USD 115 million (2017: USD 100 million), which represented an improvement of 15%. The North American market followed with USD 44 million, although with a drop of 6.4% compared to the same period of 2017 (USD 47 million).
