Brazil: Furniture exports continue to decline

BRAZIL – Brazilian furniture exports accumulated USD 352 million in the January-July period of 2015. This figure represents a decrease of 7.6% against USD 381 million in the same period of 2014.

mercados 201509This negative trend has been evident in most Brazilian furniture external markets, except for the US, destination of USD 63.2 million in Brazilian furniture exports during the first half of this year and growth of 24.3% against the first half of 2014.

Among the five major exporting states, the performance of Santa Catarina is noteworthy as it is the only state to accumulate growth. During the first seven months of 2015, Santa Catarina exported USD 122.7 million, an increase of 7.9% over the previous year.

Rio Grande do Sul took second place in the national furniture export ranking. The state exported USD 105.6 million in the period, representing a decline of -10.1% against 2014, when exports reached USD 117 million.
