April shows slight recovery in Brazilian domestic wood panel sales and consumption

BRAZIL – In April 2016, according to IBA (Industria Brasileira de Árvores) monthly report, Brazilian domestic sales of wood panels reached 548,000 m3, which represented an increase of 2.2% compared to first four months 2015 (536,000 m3).

tableros 201605Domestic panel consumption in Brazil also experienced a slight increase of 2.0% in April 2016 (548.00 m3) compared to April 2015 (537,000 m3).

Consolidated domestic sales in in Brazil, for the January – April 2016 period, reached 2,09 million m3, a decrease of 8.3% compared to the same period 2015 (2,30 million m3). Consolidated consumption of panels also decreased by 8.5% in the first four months of 2016 (2,10 million m3) compared to the same period 2015 (2,30 million m3).

Brazilian panel manufacturers were able to partially offset lower domestic sales and consumption in the first four months of 2016 by maintaining a considerable growth of panel exports in the period and reaching 269,000 m3 (2015: 86,000).
