ARGENTINA - On April 25th the eighth edition of FIMAR, Argentina's International Furniture Fair closed its doors.

fimar-2015-4-201504During the trade fair industry leaders discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in an environment that since the second half of 2014 shows stability in consumption, although not at the levels recorded in the past. Held in the province of Cordoba, which accounts for over 70% of the furniture market in the country, the event showcased 150 Argentinian furniture manufacturers.
In his inaugural speech Gustavo Viano, Chairman of the Executive Committee of FIMAR noted, "2015 comes with many interrogations, even as many actions to encourage consumption are being carried out and have been proven effective. Although there is purchasing power generating production activities, lets not confuse sale's sustainability with sale profitability, which remains strained as internal costs continue to rise and we as manufacturers try to keep prices low to avoid losing sales. Another issue of concern for the industry, is the entry of imported products, mainly from Brazil and China, which have a large cost difference with those produced in the country. Given this situation the industry hopes that the next government takes a stand to support the sector and Córdoba's furniture region.
In this regard Paul Chiara, Secretary of Industry, of the Province of Córdoba, stated "Cordoba is proud to have a consolidated trade fair as FIMAR that reflects the tremendous growth that the industry has achieved over recent years, not only in products but also in design, technology, innovation and associative integration. Around 2,000 industries in this sector generate approximately fifteen thousand direct and indirect jobs in the province and are an example of innovation."
