USA –   Sauder Woodworking, one of Fulton County’s largest employers, has laid off about 150 workers, according to local news reports, due to a drop in sales, reducing its workforce to fewer than 1,000 employees.

“We had to adjust our staffing levels to react to the sales drop,” said Executive Vice President Dan Sauder. “We’ve reduced a couple of shifts and had to cut staffing.”

Sauder Woodworking Co. is a family-owned company, and North America’s leading producer of ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture. It’s also a top 25 residential furniture manufacturer in the United States with sales of USD 600 million in 2024. The company was founded in 1934 in Archbold, Ohio, and is known for its innovative approach to furniture manufacturing, including the development of the first RTA table in 1951.

OhioMeansJobs Fulton County is providing assistance to displaced employees, including job search help, unemployment filing, training, and career planning. Two support events are scheduled next week to aid workers during the transition.

Archbold residents expressed disappointment, noting Sauder’s long-standing role in the community. The company said it hopes to rehire employees if sales improve and is working with local resources to connect affected staff with new opportunities in the area.
