COLOMBIA – RTA Muebles, Colombia’s leading manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture, announced the opening of its second manufacturing unit on November 1.
Located in the central free trade zone of the port city of Cartagena, the new plant required an investment of USD 6.5 million. The strategic location of this new plant will enable it to export close to 80% of its production, especially to the U.S., where it has clients such as Walmart and Home Depot, and to the European and Central American markets.
With a built-up area of 13,000 m2, the Cartagena unit has a production capacity of 40,000 pieces of furniture per month. Thus the company reaches an installed capacity of 160 thousand pieces of furniture per month when adding the production of the RTA Muebles plant in Yumbo, Valle del Cauca.
In the near future RTA Muebles plans to expand the new plant in Cartagena to reach 65 thousand pieces of furniture per month in 2023.
To carry out this project, the Colombian company chose Homag of Germany, a global leader in wood processing machinery and technology, and its exclusive distributor in Colombia, Cubrecol. The project includes two panel saws – one of them angular, three drilling centers, seven edgebanders and a machining center in its first phase.
With a strategic location, state-of-the-art technology and a growing market, RTA Muebles is creating 230 new jobs in the city of Cartagena.
