SWEDEN – The Ikea Museum is set to open to the public on June 30. Housed in what was once the very first IKEA store in Älmhult, Sweden, which opened in 1958, the museum has a total area of 7,000 m2, including approx. 3,500 m2 of exhibition area, a restaurant that seats 170 patrons and a 250 m2 store.

The IKEA Museum is for anyone that's interested in the story of IKEA. The Main exhibition takes you on a journey through different times and contexts. Here, IKEA share everything that makes it what it is today - the ideas and driving forces, the people and furniture, the mistakes and lessons learned. Ikea divides this exhibit under three themes: Our Roots, Our Story and Your Stories.

In one part of the exhibition IKEA also highlights the stories of the longest serving products in the range. For example, the KLIPPAN sofa and the BILLY bookcases

At the IKEA Museum you'll also find a Temporary Exhibition that is updated twice a year, which at the moment is focusing on life in and around the kitchen. Here, there is lots of space for imagining what life at home will look like in the future. This exhibition was first shown at the 2015 Milan Furniture Fair under the hashtag #IKEAtemporary.
