Argentina (Notifix).- Argentina substituted US$ 42 million in wood and furniture imports in 2010. Debora Giorgi, minister of industry, stated that in 2010 the wood and
furniture sector imports were down 42% in relation to 2008 figures, with same levels of activity. The minister explained that the process of imports substitution is a result of active policies linked to production growth and the strengthening of the domestic market. "In 2010 the wood and furniture segment imports were 42% lower than 2008 imports, which is equivalent to US $42 million that remained in the country" Giorgi sustained, and added, "these results come about because we defend our production from bad business practices and we apply the necessary instruments to promote domestic jobs".
