GERMANY – The Red Dot Award, recognized worldwide for its excellence in design, has broadened its scope by introducing a new meta-category focused on sustainable design.
This category aims to highlight products that are not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also promote environmentally responsible practices and sustainability.
Designers and companies participating in this category have the opportunity to showcase their commitment to creating innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact and foster a more sustainable future.
In the “Sustainable Design” category, durable, adaptable, and material- and energy-efficient products, as well as those made from renewable and recyclable raw materials, are accepted from all sectors.
During the evaluation process, submissions will first be assessed holistically and then reviewed by the Red Dot jury based on the following characteristics:
- Durable and adaptable products: High-quality designs that minimize replacement needs and adapt to various developmental stages.
- Material and energy-efficient construction: Designs that save resources and reduce environmental impact.
- Renewable and recyclable raw materials: Material choices influence a product’s recyclability at the end of its lifecycle.
- Repairable and recyclable products: The ability to repair and recycle extends product lifespan and lowers environmental impact.
- Sustainability in packaging and shipping: Intelligent designs that optimize packaging and transport also help protect the environment.
From 16 September 2024 to 31 January 2025, designers and companies from all over the world can apply with their products.
