MEXICO - Masisa announced that the particleboard (PB) production plants in Chihuahua, Mexico and MDF in Durango, Mexico, have been certified by the Composite Panel Association (CPA) for compliance with the new regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States of America (EPA), which establish formaldehyde emission standards for the Wood Compound Products Act and Title VI of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

“As one of the first companies to obtain this certification voluntarily, Masisa strengthens its commitment to the principles of sustainability that govern its business strategy and at the same time supports the growth of its customers and distributors who maintain export operations to the United States of America,” said Armando Espinoza Vargas, Director of Operations of Masisa Mexico.

The new regulation that became effective as of May 22, 2017, is based on the formaldehyde emission standards of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) of 2008, which include the production of:

- Wood particle boards with formaldehyde emissions less than or equal to 0.09 ppm*

- Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) boards with formaldehyde emissions less than or equal to 0.11 ppm (parts per million)

- Products made with the above materials, including, for example, furniture, kitchen cabinets and laminate floors.
