USA (Notifix).- Wood panel manufacturer Roseburg Forest Products, announced on June 8 it has entered into an agreement with Flakeboard to acquire its Simsboro, La., particleboard manufacturing and laminating facility. With this acquisition Roseburg will own one of the most modern continuous presses in the United States. "This unique opportunity will fill a gap in our product line, allowing us to better meet the current and emerging needs of our composite customers," stated Allyn Ford, Roseburg's CEO and President. At the same time the company announced it would close its Orangeburg (SC) laminating plant, which the company purchased from Decolam back in 2007; and its particleboard facility in Russellville (SC).Approximately 125 employees will be laid off as a result of the two plant closures. According to COO Chuck Ulik as reported by Wood Working Network, "We made this decision based on the persistently poor market, the growing cost pressure and the limited product capability at these two locations."
