ARAUCO Selected as Dual Finalist in 2010 RISI Awards

Chile (Notifix).- Arauco, a global leader in the manufacture of sustainable forest products, has been named as a finalist in two categories of RISI's 2010 PPI Awards. RISI is an international recognized, forest products information service. It presents the prestigious PPI Awards annually to forest-industry companies that have exhibited leadership and extraordinary performance in a range of categories. This year's awards will be presented during a ceremony on November 16, in Brussels, Belgium. A producer of panels, millwork, lumber and pulp sold worldwide, Arauco was shortlisted in the Green Energy and Biofuels category for its achievements in generating renewable energy from forest biomass, and in the Business Strategy of the Year category, for its integrated approach to rebuilding its own operations and the communities near which it operates following the devastating February 27 earthquake and tsunami in central Chile.Arauco sustainably manages forest plantations in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The fiber from these forests is used to make a range of products including AraucoPly and Trupan panels, TruChoice Arauco moulding and millwork, and a variety of lumber and pulp products. Forest biomass from Arauco's operations is used to generate clean, renewable thermal and electrical energy, including an annual surplus of electricity sufficient to light one-half million Chilean homes.
