COLOMBIA – Among the Notifix sample of wood panel manufacturers, Colombian Tablemac was by far the best performing company based on sales, EBITDA and margin growth in the first half 2015.
Tablemac, subsidiary of Brazil’s Duratex, had the highest sales growth, 21.5%, followed by Brazilian producers Eucatex and Duratex with growths of 4.7% and 4.2% respectively. Tablemac´s EBITDA also registered the highest improvement, reaching 47.5% in the first half 2015 and compared to the same period 2014, followed by Portuguese Sonae at 17.4% and Eucatex at 7.0% EBITDA growth.
In terms of EBITDA margin Tablemac gained 4.3 percentage points in the first half 2015 compared to the same period 2014, with Duratex (+ 2.1p.p.) and Chile’s Arauco (+1.2p.p.) also improving their margin.
The excellent performance of Tablemac was aided by a considerable drop in wooden panel imports due to a strong devaluation of the Colombian peso in the period. Chilean board Manufacturer Masisa, which posted considerable decreases in sales, EBITDA and margin, was strongly affected in the period by Venezuela’s currency issues.
