PORTUGAL – Sonae Arauco invests over EUR 5 million in two new recycling centers in Portugal, strategically located in the Minho region and north of Lisbon.
These centers will complement the activity of the existing three in the country, part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, set to finish by 2025. In 2023, Sonae Arauco recycled 734,000 tonnes of wood, forming the basis of its circular bioeconomy model.
With over 70% of recycled wood in some product ranges, the company aims for 85% in certain areas over the next three years, exceeding the European industry average.
CEO Rui Correia highlights the strategic importance of recycling centers for Sonae Arauco’s wood integration goals. Over the next two years, the company plans to invest EUR 13 million to enhance its recycling capacity and develop innovative technologies.
Currently, Sonae Arauco operates three recycling centers in Portugal and aims to increase wood collection by 60% by 2034.
