PORTUGAL – Sonae Arauco introduced BioReFiber X, an innovative recycled MDF panel made with biomass-balanced resin, at SICAM 2025 in Pordenone, Italy.
The new product marks a breakthrough in the wood-based materials industry, offering a circular economy solution that replaces fossil-based raw materials with renewable ones and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 25%.
The panel will be produced in Portugal, at the Mangualde plant, and will be available in the second quarter of 2026.
“This new product represents a balance between innovation and sustainability—two of Sonae Arauco’s main priorities,” said Adelaide Alves, Group R&D and Product Development Director. “BioReFiber X combines recycled wood fibres with a resin system that minimizes the use of fossil-based raw materials.”
As part of its sustainable growth strategy, Sonae Arauco is committed to 100% responsible wood sourcing and an expanding circular economy model. Some of its particleboard lines already contain over 70% recycled material, and the company aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2040 (Scopes 1 and 2).
