PERU – Tableros Peruanos S.A. (Tapesa), Peru’s sole particleboard manufacturer, reported plans to expand its presence in international markets.
Tapesa currently exports to Colombia and Bolivia and plans to enter the markets of Ecuador and Chile. Notably Tapesa’s main competitors in the local market are precisely board imports from Ecuador and Chile. Tapesa expects that with these market strategies, in addition to recent investments in their melamine laminating line, the company will close 2014 with double-digit growth, and in 2015 achieve 15% growth.

Tapesa’s production plant is located in the department of La Libertad, northern Peru, surrounded by sugarcane plantations – this region is home to the country’s major sugar mills. A strategic location since Tapesa produces particleboard from pine, eucalyptus and sugarcane bagasse.

The company, founded over 30 years ago, also has a significant national presence with 23 distributors, 14 of them in Lima. Since 2006 Tapesa is part of the Gloria Group, an industrial conglomerate of Peruvian capital with five business units: Food and Nutrition (mainly dairy), Cement, Agribusiness, Packaging and New Business. Besides Peru, the Gloria Group has operations in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Puerto Rico.
