CHILE (Notifix).- Masisa’s board met on July 4th and approved the construction by its subsidiary Masisa Mexico of an MDF manufacturing facility at its industrial complex in Durango, Mexico. The new plant will have a production capacity of 200.000 m3/year. The project also includes a melamine laminate line, with an installed capacity of 100 thousand m3/year and the expansion of the resin plant on site.

The $132 million investment will be financed with company funds and resources from the forest asset divestment in southern Chile now underway.

Masisa stressed that these investments strengthen the position of the company in Mexico, where they perceive a high market potential, both by increasing domestic demand, and as the possibility of serving other markets opens up. Masisa is awaiting the approval from government agencies to begin the project.

Masisa’s expansion in Mexico was evident earlier this year with the acquisition of Rexcel assets that gave way to a new phase for the Mexican particleboard market. With that acquisition Masisa became the largest manufacturer of boards in the country, with a particleboard production capacity of over 600.000 m3.e la planta de resinas.La inversión se aproxima a los USD 132 millones.
