CHILE – Masisa acquired for the amount of USD 16.2 million a cogeneration plant to the Dalkia–Conade company with which it maintained a BOT contract. The plant located in Masisa’s industrial complex in Cabrero (Bio Bio Region), began operations in January 2011.
The cogeneration plant has an installed capacity of 10 MW that can produce 66 GWhr/year of electricity and 200,000 tons of steam per year.
This unit is fueled by wood by-products of the production process (biomass) generated in the Cabrero industrial complex and from other sources, producing non-conventional renewable energy. The energy is injected into the Central Interconnected System (SIC), and the thermal energy produced in used in the internal lumber drying processes.
“The purchase decision responds to deepen synergies between the various units of the productive complex in Cabrero, besides continuing with the process of converting our energy towards the use of renewable energy, in line with our policy of sustainable development,” said Jaime Valenzuela, General Manager Masisa Andina.
