GERMANY –    Kronospan has received the Wood Innovation Award (Woody Award) in the category “Innovation for greater corporate sustainability”, presented by the German Timber Trade Association (GDTR), for its Black Line boards.

The award recognizes companies that advance sustainability, efficiency, and climate protection in the timber industry.

Black Line is a next-generation wood-based board with a certified antibacterial surface, a sleek black core, and exceptional durability. Designed for interior and exterior applications, it offers high resistance to abrasion, water, steam, and corrosion—ideal for heavy-use public and private spaces.

The product’s sustainability profile was a key factor in winning the award. By replacing kraft paper with cellulose fiber, Kronospan reduces water use by nearly 90%, cuts energy consumption, lowers resin usage through direct fiber coating, and delivers a negative Global Warming Potential (GWP), storing more biogenic carbon than the greenhouse gases emitted during production.

Since 1995, the Woody Award has celebrated innovative companies shaping the timber sector’s future. Kronospan’s recognition highlights its commitment to combining performance, hygiene, and environmental responsibility in wood-based products, setting a new benchmark for climate-positive materials.
