Italian Wooden Panel Manufacturers Profitable Despite Challenges

ITALY – The latest financial data available for Italy’s top wood-based panel companies (2023) reveals a year of mixed results. According to Acimall studies office, many companies faced revenue declines, though some managed to remain profitable.

Media Profili, the largest player, saw a 3.7% drop in revenue to EUR 381.17 million, with EBITDA of EUR 19.99 million and net profits of EUR 3.04 million. Gruppo Mauro Saviola followed with EUR 335.62 million in sales, down 16.9%, but achieved strong profitability with EBITDA of EUR 60.76 million and net profits of EUR 37.18 million.

Fantoni experienced a 25.2% decline in revenue, totaling EUR 294.65 million, with an EBITDA of EUR 50.15 million and net profits of EUR 17.71 million. Frate Luigi saw a 29.0% drop in sales to EUR 203.16 million but managed an impressive EBITDA of EUR 53.94 million and net profits of EUR 52.19 million. Cleaf saw a 19.7% drop in sales to EUR 145.75 million but remained profitable with EBITDA of EUR 15.75 million and net profits of EUR 7.92 million.

Smaller companies such as Kronospan Italia and Panguaneta experienced more modest declines. Kronospan saw a 10.2% drop to EUR 115.1 million, while Panguaneta dropped 3.3% to EUR 104.55 million. Both managed to maintain profitability.

Kastamonu Italia had a 12.2% decline, with EUR 99.91 million in sales, EBITDA of EUR 22.28 million, and net profits of EUR 3.88 million. Bipan faced a 42.9% decline to EUR 98.59 million, posting negative net profits of EUR -1.93 million.

Overall, the 2023 data reflects a challenging year for Italy’s wood-based panel industry, with many companies facing declining sales but maintaining profitability through effective cost management.
