BELGIUM – Finsa has signed a licensing agreement with Unilin Technologies to incorporate its patented Unicoat edge coating into the company’s laminate flooring portfolio, strengthening water resistance and product durability.
Unicoat is a state-of-the-art water-repellent treatment that significantly improves laminate flooring performance, enabling products to exceed NALFA water-resistance standards. The coating prevents water infiltration between panel joints and reduces swelling in wood-based cores by creating a protective shield. Finsa will roll out the technology across all production lines at its flooring facility, supported by Schiele (machinery partner) and PTS (coating supplier), ensuring high-quality application.
“We are excited to work with Unilin and bring the benefits of Unicoat to our customers,” said Pablo García. “As water resistance becomes increasingly important for residential and commercial flooring, this innovation allows us to stay ahead of the curve,” added Estibaliz Jurado, both from Finsa’s flooring team.
From Unilin, Floris Koopmans highlighted that Finsa’s adoption of Unicoat “confirms the growing importance of waterproof performance in the laminate category,” noting that Unilin remains the only provider of a reliable, sustainable, and PFAS-free waterproof coating.
Finsa now joins a growing list of leading European manufacturers integrating Unicoat, reinforcing the technology’s position as an industry benchmark for waterproof laminate solutions.
