BRAZIL – Duratex, the first South American company to obtain the FSC Forest Management certification, opened the doors of its unit in Itapetininga to more than 50 experts from the national and international forest industry.
The activity was part of an international event sponsored by IBA (Brazilian Tree Industry), with the support of Duratex that took place from August 23 to 26 in Sao Paulo as a forum to discuss priority issues for certified forests producers, among which is the use of pesticides.
During the visit to the Duratex plantation participants had the opportunity to learn the process of monitoring and controlling leafcutter ants by Duratex and also discuss integrated pest management in Brazil carried out sustainably by forestry companies.
“This is a priority for companies working with planted forests and that apply sustainable management of their subjected areas. Cooperative work between different companies showed that the sector is aligned and grounded to further advance the issue,” said Jonas Salvador, coordinator of environmental protection at the Duratex Wood division.
