BRAZIL – Eucatex, one of the largest manufacturers of wood boards in Brazil, reported sales for the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2018 of BRL 335.3 million, compared to BRL 318.3 million in 4Q17, which represented a growth of 5.4 percent. For the year 2018, total sales grew 4.7 percent, going from BRL 1,205.4 million in 2017 to BRL 1,262.3 million in 2018.
The EBITDA also presented improvements in both periods of 8.3 percent in 4Q18, and of 9.0 percent for 2018.
Net income in 4Q18 amounted to BRL 46.0 million, an increase of 147.2 percent when compared to 4Q17, impacted by foreign exchange variations and the value of biological assets. In 2018, Net income reached BRL 55.1 million, down by 15.6 percent in relation to 2017.
In the Wood Segment, sales growth was 12.0 percent in 4Q18 and 8.1 percent for the full year, positively impacted by the increase in prices and exports.
The Company, in October 2018, completed the asset exchange process with Duratex, increasing its hardboard production capacity, which entered into operation and contributed to the increase in billing in 4Q18, which will become more evident in 2019.
By 2019, the Company believes in the gradual recovery of economic activity, based on the improvement of its main indicators, but will depend very much on the support of the Congress to the new government to advance the difficult reforms, among them regarding Social Security.
For the present year the Company intends to carry out several actions aimed at increasing sales in the domestic and foreign markets, investments in its products, aiming at reducing costs and improving its processes, generating better results.
