GERMANY – Egger, one of the main global wooden panel manufacturers, has successfully completed the modernization of its oriented strand board (OSB) plant in Wismar, Germany, bringing the facility back into operation five days ahead of schedule after a 52-day shutdown.
The project, carried out in cooperation with Siempelkamp, aimed to increase production capacity by at least 15%.
The upgrade included the installation of new mat formers, the integration of a Contitherm® preheating system, and major enhancements to the ContiRoll® continuous press, including new hot platens and pressure distribution plates. An improved hydraulic control system was introduced to optimize thickness control, alongside new electrical equipment and control systems.
The contract was signed in April 2024, with planning starting in mid-June. The first board was produced on October 29, 2025, marking the early completion of the project.
Egger’s Wismar site produces OSB, MDF and HDF boards, as well as laminate flooring, and employs around 850 people. “After 25 years of OSB production in Wismar, it was time to upgrade key production processes to the latest technical standards and strengthen competitiveness,” said Raimund Hagspiel, Managing Director of Egger in Wismar.
