Colombia: Strong decline in particleboard imports in 1Q-2015

COLOMBIA – Colombian imports of Particleboard/MDP had an important decrease in the 1Q-2015, declining from USD 19.1 million in 2014 to USD 15.9 million in same period 2015 (-16.7%).

Madecentro maintained its position as the top importer with USD 9.2 million in the 1Q-2015, a marginal increase of 0.2% compared to 1Q-2014. In volume, Colombian imports of particleboard/MDP fell 19.8% totaling 42,375 cubic meters in the 1Q-2015 (1Q-2014: 52,849m3).

Colombian leading board manufacturer Tablemac, estimated in its 1Q-2015 report to investors that volume of raw particleboard imports fell 26.6% and laminated board imports 15.7% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to same period 2014.
