BRAZIL – In 2023, Brazil’s installed production capacity for medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and high-density fiberboard (HDF) reached a total of 8,055,000 cubic meters across 22 production lines.

This capacity underscores Brazil’s importance in the global wood-based panels market.

According to the August/September 2024 issue of Wood Based Panels International (WBPI), the companies contributing to this capacity are Dexco, with 4 lines with capacity to produce 1,800,000 cubic meters; Arauco, operating 4 lines with a capacity of 1,440,000 cubic meters; Berneck, with 3 lines producing 1,395,000 cubic meters; and Guararapes, which has 3 lines with a capacity of 1,140,000 cubic meters.

With the third Guararapes line installed at its plant in Cacador, SC, which went into production in May 2023, with an installed capacity to produce 540,000 cubic meters of MDF per year, it brings the company’s total capacity to 1,140,000 cubic meters at that location and is considered the largest MDF plant in the Americas.

Other significant players include Fibraplac, with 2 lines producing 670,000 cubic meters; Floraplac, also with 2 lines at 595,000 cubic meters; Asperbras / Greenplac, with 1 line at 300,000 cubic meters; Placas Do Brasil, with 1 line also at 300,000 cubic meters; Eucatex, operating 1 line at 275,000 cubic meters; and Sudati, with a capacity of 140,000 cubic meters from 1 line.
