ARGENTINA – Central Puerto, Argentina’s largest electricity producer, acquired the forestry company Evasa (owned by a Harvard University investment fund), which manages three companies: Empresas Verdes Argentina, Las Misiones and Estancia Celina. All of them are geographically located in the center of the province of Corrientes.

1032ARGENTIA“This acquisition represents a major milestone for us and our strategy to develop forestry activity, which we believe is key to Argentina’s growth potential. This sector can be a source of future business opportunities, linked to wood processing and industrialization, carbon credits and biomass energy generation,” said Fernando Bonnet, Central Puerto’s general manager.

Central Puerto is a nationally owned company. With the support of its main shareholders – Guillermo Reca, the Miguens-Bemberg family and Eduardo Escassany – it has strengthened its business diversification and continues to expand in the forestry sector. Due to the previous acquisition of Masisa’s forestry assets in Argentina, Central Puerto becomes the leading Argentine company in the forestry sector with more than 160,000 hectares.

Argentina has one of the highest growth rates not only in the region, but in the world: trees grow approximately ten times faster than in the northern hemisphere. That is why the forestry sector in which Central Puerto continues to expand provides one of the businesses with the greatest competitive advantages and growth potential as a generator of foreign exchange in Argentina.
