COLOMBIA – On February 13, the Superintendence of Societies of Colombia admitted the judicial liquidation process of Pizano S.A. Founded in 1935 and one of the main woodworking companies in Colombia, Pizano operates its manufacturing headquarters in Barranquilla since 1954.
BRAZIL – Sales of Duratex – manufacturer of wood panels, flooring, and sanitary ceramics and metals headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil – reached BRL 1,102.6 million in the last quarter (4Q) of 2017, a 7.2% growth.
CANADA – Norbord Inc., the world’s largest OSB manufacturer, reported sales of USD 596 million in the fourth quarter of 2017 versus USD 482 million in the fourth quarter of 2016, an increase of 23.7%.
SPAIN – Dieffenbacher has recieved an order from Grupo Martín, the largest supplier of wood-based panels and accessories for the wood and furniture industry in Peru, which in 2014 took over the operations of the Spanish wood-based panel manufacturer Tablicia located in Nadela in the Galician province of Lugo, through its subsidiary Tableros Hispanos.
BRAZIL – Brazil’s top two board manufacturers, Duratex S.A. and Eucatex Group, have informed the general market that they have entered into a binding proposal involving the exchange of assets between the companies. The transaction is based on the amount of BRR 60 million.
U.S. – Roseburg Resources Co. announced that it has completed the previously announced sale of its California timberlands to Shasta Cascade Timberlands, a new company formed by New Forests.
SWITZERLAND – Sales for Swiss Krono Group in the past financial year (as of 30 September 2017) were up by 4 percent to EUR 1.56 billion.
MEXICO – On December 19, Chile’s Arauco and Masisa announced they had struck an agreement where Arauco buys Masisa’s industrial assets in Mexico.
AUSTRIA – The EGGER Group, headquartered in St. Johann in Tirol, Austria, concluded the first half of its 2017/2018 financial year with a turnover of EUR 1.32 billion (+11.1% compared to the previous year).
CHILE – Masisa, one of the largest manufacturers of wooden panels in Latin America, reported that net income attributable to the owners of the parent company (formerly known as profit for the period) was a loss of USD65.6 million, which includes the one-off effect of -USD 55.8 million as a result of the divestment plan in Argentina and Brazil.
MEXICO – Growth of the MDF boards market in Mexico accelerated in 2017 and based on estimates by the MDF manufacturer with plant in Tabasco and part of the Proteak Group, domestic consumption is growing at rates without precedents.
CHILE – Arauco, one of the world’s largest wood panel manufacturers, reported its results for the third quarter 2017 (3Q17).
