SOUTH AFRICA – South Africa’s PG Bison, the country’s leading manufacturer of wood-based panel products, has announced on 17 November 2020 a USD 130 million capital investment to be rolled out over the next three years.

BRAZIL – Duratex, the largest wooden panel manufacturer in the country, was elected by the InfoMoney portal as the best company in the stock exchange of the Basic Materials category in 2020.

CHILE – Arauco, one of the largest global wooden panel manufacturer, reported sales revenues of USD 1,202.9 million during the third quarter of 2020 (3Q-2020), a 14.6% increase compared to the USD 1,049.9 million obtained during the second quarter of 2020 and a 13.3% fall compared to the third quarter of 2019 (3Q-2019: USD 1,387.2 million).

U.S. – CalPlant, a Northern California-based company focused on manufacturing sustainably-sourced building products, announces the official launch of the world’s first no-added-formaldehyde, rice straw-based medium density fiberboard, Eureka™ MDF.

CANADA – West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. and Norbord Inc.  recently announced that they have entered into a strategic business combination pursuant to which West Fraser, a leading North American diversified wood products company will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Norbord, the world’s largest OSB producer, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately USD 3.1 billion.

CHILE – The Chilean forestry company Masisa published its results as of September 2020 (9M-2020) where it reports that consolidated sales income amounted to USD 474.0 million as of September 2020, which includes the sale of Chilean forests for USD 229.1 millions.

Eucatex wood division reports 31.0% revenue increase in 3Q-2020

BRAZIL – Brazilian wood panel manufacturer Eucatex – also active in the paint and varnish, laminated flooring and doors segments – announced results for the 3rd quarter of 2020 (3Q-2020).

CANADA – Norbord Inc., the largest global producer of oriented strand board (OSB), reported total sales in the 3Q-2020 of USD 725 million, which compared to USD 435 million in the 3Q-2019 represent an increase of USD 290 million or 66.7%.

MEXICO – Sales of Mexican forestry company Proteak, which includes the MDF  (Tecnotabla) and Teak businesses, reached MXN 364.6 million in the third quarter of 2020 (3Q-2020), resulting in a slight increase of 0.4% compared to 3Q-2019 (MXN 363.1 million).

BRAZIL – In the third quarter of 2020, revenues from sales of Duratex, the largest wood panel manufacturer in the country, totaled BRL 1,778.0 million, an increase of 35.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.

BRAZIL – Duratex  takes the lead again and is the first company in Brazil to offer coated wood panels (MDF and MDP) and laminate flooring with antiviral and antibacterial protection.

GERMANY – With the aim of a strategic expansion, Homann Holzwerkstoffe GmbH, a leading manufacturer of wooden fiberboards in Europe, signed a contract for the acquisition of 77 ha of industrial land near Vilnius, Lithuania, in October.
