Enrique Peña Nieto inaugurates Proteak’s Tecnotabla plant

MEXICO – President Enrique Peña Nieto inaugurated on September 23rd the Tecnotabla MDF plant, a subsidiary of Proteak Uno and located in Huimanguillo, Tabasco.

With an investment of USD 200 million, this important forest-industrial project is the largest non-oil private equity investment in southeastern Mexico. Tecnotabla generates more than 1,500 direct jobs, and with it Proteak is looking to boost the local furniture industry, valued at over 1 billion annually, replacing imports.

Hector Bonilla, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Proteak, spoke of the importance of the Tecnotabla MDF plant: “We are happy to complete construction of the first MDF plant of undertaken by Mexican capital and with a 100% sustainable approach. With this investment we demonstrate how a group of Mexican entrepreneurs, based on great effort and commitment to the country, has achieved extraordinary results.”

The Tecnotabla MDF plant has a production capacity of 280 thousand m3 and is 100% sustainable thanks to guaranteed supply of certified timber from its 10,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations. The plant has the latest in German technology and also integrates energy efficient cogeneration and the manufacture of resins, ensuring the highest quality standards.

Proteak is the largest forest-industrial company in Mexico and Central America. With 20,000 hectares of plantations in Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia, the Company exports its products to over 15 destinations in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Proteak develops all its plantations in strict accordance with the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
