MEXICO – On behalf of the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, the Secretary of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, inaugurated on June 14 Masisa’s MDF Plant in the board manufacturer’s industrial complex of Durango. 

With this event, Masisa completes the first phase of this USD 132 million investment. The project includes the 220,000 m³ capacity MDF plant, a melamine lamination line with annual capacity of 110,000 m³ and the expansion of its resins plant.

The Secretary Guajardo Villarreal, who was accompanied by the Governor of Durango, Jorge Herrera Caldera, said in his intervention that it is essential to integrate the value chain in the forestry sector to strengthen it, highlighting the instruction given by President Enrique Peña Nieto, to integrate national policy in the sector, where all stakeholders are aligned.

“We can not keep taking public policy decisions independently and in isolation, we need to integrate decisions on trade policy and market integration with a scenario of legal certainty and timber exploitation that allows us a sustainable scheme, trying to follow the best international examples”, he said.

Governor Jorge Herrera Caldera said that “We put our trust in Masisa as the anchor company of industrialization in one of the most strategic areas in the state: the forestry sector.”

He also said that betting on this great industry “opens the opportunity for great investments and job creation, many possibilities and opportunities for small farmers and micro entrepreneurs in the mountain areas as suppliers, preserving our forest wealth through commercial plantations.”

Also, the President of Masisa Group, Roberto Salas Guzman, said the expansion of the company would not have been possible without the public-private partnership, without good management by the Government to promote a favorable climate for foreign investment.
