CANADA – Formica Corporation has received the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) Certified Biobased Product Label for all Formica Brand Laminate and Compact products manufactured in the United States and Canada, reinforcing the company’s commitment to renewable materials and responsible innovation.
The certification confirms that Formica® Laminate contains 72% biobased content, the highest certified level among major high-pressure laminate (HPL) manufacturers. Biobased materials help reduce dependence on petroleum-based chemicals and match the performance of conventional alternatives.
Formica’s laminate and Compact surfaces combine durability, design versatility, and verified renewable content—an attribute increasingly valued by architects, designers, and consumers across North America, including Quebec and the rest of Canada.
The certification is verified through the USDA BioPreferred Program, which promotes the development and use of biobased products.
“We are proud to see Formica Brand Laminate recognized with the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label,” said Christelle Locat-Rainville, Marketing Manager – Canada. “This distinction underscores our focus on sustainable, high-performing surfaces.”
USDA representatives noted that the label supports economic growth, helps buyers identify environmentally responsible options, and combats misleading environmental claims.
