NEW ZEALAND – After more than two years of preparation, Ikea has officially opened its first store in New Zealand, located in Sylvia Park, Auckland.
The full Ikea range is also available nationwide via Ikea.com and the Ikea app, offering delivery and planning services across the country.
Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) of the Ingka Group | Ikea, said the opening marks a long-term commitment: “We’re not just exporting a store, we’re planting roots, creating jobs, learning from local communities, and tailoring our offer for Kiwi homes.”
The store spans approximately 34,000 m² across three floors and includes a Swedish Restaurant and Bistro with traditional meatballs, hot dogs, and plant-based options, alongside New Zealand-exclusive dishes. Ikea has also established 29 pick-up points nationwide, supporting an omnichannel shopping experience. A Buy Back service is available from day one to promote circular living.
Sustainability is central to the new store: it runs fully on renewable energy, with a rooftop solar PV system supplying 50% of the building’s energy and the remainder purchased from New Zealand’s renewable sources. All 3,000+ LED lights are programmable to save energy, and the car park offers 25 EV charging stations.
The expansion into New Zealand is part of Ikea’s broader strategy, which includes more than EUR 5 billion in investments worldwide by FY27 for new stores and optimization of existing locations.
