NETHERLANDS –   Sonae Arauco has released its 2024 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Report, confirming a 41% reduction in total emissions since 2019 and a 38% decrease in carbon intensity per cubic meter produced.

In 2024, total emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 reached 1.18 MtCO₂e—16% less than in 2023.

CFO Cristian Knollseisen said the progress reflects the company’s circular model, responsible forest management practices, and contribution to the Paris Agreement and European Green Deal goals.

Key measures in Portugal include eliminating natural gas use at the Mangualde plant—replaced entirely by renewable energy—expanding renewable electricity purchases, and electrifying both fleet vehicles and forklifts. Similar actions are being implemented across operations in Spain, Germany, and South Africa.

Scope 3 emissions, representing about 82% of Sonae Arauco’s footprint, have fallen 39% since 2019 thanks to closer supplier collaboration, improved emission-factor data, and expanded circular economy strategies.

Despite strong progress, Sonae Arauco maintains a demanding target: a 58.8% emissions reduction by 2033. The company is integrating CO₂ criteria into CAPEX planning and developing decarbonization roadmaps for each industrial facility and key value chain categories.
