ROMANIA – Kronospan, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-based panels, has officially completed the acquisition of the ZG Timber sawmill in Sebeș, formerly part of the insolvent Ziegler Group, according to local press. The deal secures ongoing operations at the facility and safeguards more than 500 jobs.
With regulatory approvals now finalized, the Sebeș sawmill will be integrated into Kronospan’s Romanian operations. The company said the transaction reinforces its long-term commitment to Romania and its confidence in the country’s industrial capabilities, despite current economic challenges.
As part of its broader growth and diversification strategy, Kronospan will add sawn timber produced at the Sebeș site to its global product portfolio. Kronospan’s wood products are used domestically and exported to 75 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.
The addition of sawn timber complements its established production of particleboard (PB), medium-density fibreboard (MDF), and oriented strand board (OSB) at its facilities in Sebeș and Brașov, strengthening its integrated and sustainable wood-processing offering.
Kronospan has operated in Romania since 1998, investing more than EUR 600 million in production plants, logistics infrastructure, and wood recycling and collection centers across the country.
